Close Call In Boston As Truck Crosses Runway
Authorities say the driver of a construction vehicle that nearly collided with a plane taking off from Logan International Airport appears to have violated airfield procedures.
The Massachusetts Port Authority and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating Thursday morning's incident, labeled a "serious runway incursion."
An airport spokesman says the truck crossed a runway and came within seconds of colliding with US Airways Flight 27. The Phoenix-bound plane with 84 passengers and a crew of five took off safely.
Massport operates the airport and says the actions of the driver are under investigation. Officials are investigating whether the driver may have been using a cell phone.
Construction at the airport has been suspended.
