Summit Held In Hopes Of Ending Child Hunger

Efforts to end child hunger are the topic at a summit in Boston.

More than 100 government, food and health officials from the Northeast met Friday to talk about ways to feed hungry kids and promote healthy childhood nutrition.

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan and other government officials encouraged partnerships between farmers and schools to promote childhood nutrition.

Merrigan announced the government is teaming up with the producers of "Sesame Street" on a healthy eating public service announcement featuring the "Cookie Monster" character and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Menino urged Congress and President Barack Obama to invest in the Resources to End America's Child Hunger program by 2015.

This program aired on August 1, 2009. The audio for this program is not available.
