Retired Justice Souter Moves To Hopkinton, N.H.

Retired U.S. Associate Justice David Souter is moving from Weare to Hopkinton, N.H..

Souter is leaving his modest colonial-era farmhouse, which has been in his family for generations, for a 3,500 square-foot Cape Cod-style home. It was purchased Thursday from New England College President Michele Perkins.

One of Souter's old neighbors says he's devastated to learn that his longtime neighbor is moving. Jimmy Gilman told the Concord Monitor that it's some of the worst news he's heard in a while.

Gilman, who's 56 and shared the same road with 69-year-old Souter, says he thinks the world of the retired jurist and, as he put it, "I don't care who knows it."
