Mass. Transportation Rift Set For Public Display

This article is more than 11 years old.

Transportation Secretary James Aloisi is laying the groundwork for resolving a partisan political battle between him, the Patrick administration and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority general manager.

Aloisi has sent a letter to MBTA General Manager Daniel Grabauskas, giving him a mandatory 48-hour notice that the agency's board of directors will be "discussing your performance" during its meeting Thursday.

The notice comes as the Democratic administration and the Republican appointee clash over safety and management issues following two recent MBTA Green Line accidents.

Grabauskas has refused to resign, and has a strong contract extending to next May. That could set up negotiations to buy out the remainder of his $255,000-per-year contract.
