Mass. Health Officials Find Infected Mosquitos

State health officials have found more mosquitoes infected with West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced findings of West Nile Virus in mosquito samples from Worcester, Bourne, and Quincy. Eastern Equine Encephalitis has been found in Merrimac, New Bedford, and Lakeville.

"Last year we saw more West Nile Virus in our mosquitoes," said Dr. Katherine Brown, of the Department of Public Health. "This year we're starting to see some concentrations of Eastern Equine in some of our hot bed areas."

Residents are encouraged to avoid outdoor activities at peak mosquito hours, and to wear protective clothing and insect repellent.
