Incumbent Mayor Thomas Menino and his challengers, South End contractor Kevin McCrea and City Councilors Sam Yoon and Michael Flaherty, took to the stage Wednesday night in the first of two mayoral debates before the Sept. 22 primary.

They tackled a wide-range of issues, including education, government transparency and the city's develoopment procedures.

To analyze the candidates' first face-off, we turned to Larry DiCara, a former Boston city councilor and one-time mayoral candidate.

This program aired on September 3, 2009.
