Greenfield Hospital To Eliminate 51 Jobs

Baystate Franklin Medical Center is eliminating 51 jobs and closing some units to deal with a $1.6 million operating loss last year.

Officials at the Greenfield hospital say the outpatient behavioral health and substance abuse units will be closed, and those services will be handled by the human services agency, ServiceNet. The programs will close Dec. 9.

Hospital president Charles Gijanto said in a statement Wednesday that the units lost $500,000 alone last year.

Spokeswoman Jane Albert says workers who lose their jobs may be able to find work with ServiceNet.

Gijanto says the hospital is working with the state agencies and ServiceNet to keep services in the community and to preserve as many related jobs as possible.
