Former Mayoral Rivals Team Up To Endorse Flaherty, Yoon

Former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn has joined with his one-time rival to endorse mayoral candidate Michael Flaherty and his running mate — and former rival — Sam Yoon.

Flynn and former state Rep. Mel King, who along with Flynn was a finalist in the race for mayor in 1983, on Wednesday threw their support behind City Councilors Flaherty and Yoon.

Flynn said Flaherty and Yoon's partnership candidacy shows vision and determination.

"Mel King and I haven't been on the same stage endorsing candidates, I don't think, ever," Flynn said. "But we are here today because there's an awful lot at stake: the future of the city of Boston and the future of our children and our grandchildren."

Flynn defeated King in the final election of the hotly-contested 1983 race for mayor of Boston.

Incumbent Mayor Thomas Menino wouldn't comment on the endorsement.
