Power Outage Causes Delays At Logan

Officials say a power outage at Logan International Airport caused flight delays and some cancellations and temporarily required baggage to be checked by hand at security checkpoints.

Massport spokesman Phil Orlandella said the outage traced to two NStar feeder lines was reported at 9:10 a.m. on Friday.

Orlandella says power started to return about eight minutes later, but it took about two hours before operations were back to normal.

Orlandella says outbound flight delays averaged about one hour. He did not know how many flights had to be cancelled.

Inbound flights were not delayed, but planes could not taxi all the way to the gates, so passengers had to walk or be bused to the terminals.

Orlandella says the outage affected security checkpoints, ticket counters and elevators.

An NStar spokesman did not immediately return a call.
