Mass. State Colleges On Building Spree

Massachusetts' nine state colleges are going on a building spree.

This month, the Massachusetts State College Building Authority is raising almost $150 million for new dorms, cafeterias and parking garages. That's the most in years.

Ed Adelman heads the financing organization and said now is a good time to fund campus construction.

"We're not yet out of this economic struggle," he said. "And as a result, some construction prices are lower or have not gone up as quickly as they have in years past."

At the same time, enrollment is up, so Adelman said state colleges feel confident about paying off the bonds.
