Cahill Picks Republican Running Mate
State Treasurer Timothy Cahill has picked former state Rep. Paul Loscocco as his running mate in his bid as an independent candidate for Gov. Deval Patrick's job.
Loscocco was Massachusetts co-chairman of Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign. As a member of the House, Loscocco represented Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway, Southborough and Westborough.
In the legislature, he was initially one of the leaders of the movement to allow voters to decide the issue of gay marriage. But in the end, he was one of the crucial votes that prevented an anti-gay marriage initiative from making it onto the ballot.
Legally, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately in Massachusetts. But since eventual Gov. William Weld chose Paul Cellucci as his running mate, Republican candidates have run together. The former Democrat, Cahill, is following suit.
