Earthquakes, Revolution Play To Scoreless Tie

The San Jose Earthquakes extended their unbeaten streak to three games Saturday night, playing to a scoreless tie with the New England Revolution.

San Jose (4-2-1) has not allowed a goal in the three matches, while New England (2-5-2) had its fourth shutout loss and is winless in six straight games.

San Jose, which beat New England 2-0 on April 17, was thwarted by Revolution goalie Preston Burpo on three superb chances in the second half: a header by Ryan Johnson in the 67th minute; a point blank volley by Bobby Burling in the 69th; and another header by Johnson in the 79th.

New England had its best chance to seize the lead in the 62nd on a right-footed drive by Joseph Niouky from 35 yards out that was blocked by goalie Joe Cannon.
