Worcester Transit Union Authorizes Strike
Members of a union representing drivers and mechanics at the Worcester Regional Transit Authority have voted to authorize a strike if their labor demands are not met.
Union business agent Christopher Bruce said the roughly 135 members all raised their hands Sunday at the vote to authorize a strike.
The vote allows the executive board to vote to strike if the company imposes a last and best offer.
Transit General Manager John Carney said management wants to avoid a strike.
The sides are scheduled to meet with a federal mediator on Tuesday to negotiate a new contract. The previous contract expired June 30.
