Connaughton, Bump Win Mass. Auditor Primaries

Former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority board member Mary Connaughton and former state labor secretary Suzanne Bump will face off in the November election to succeed longtime state Auditor Joseph DeNucci.

Connaughton won the Republican primary on Tuesday, defeating businessman Kamal Jain (JANE).

Bump captured the Democratic primary, defeating Worcester County Sheriff Guy Glodis and Northeastern University official Mike Lake.

Connaughton touts her experience as the only certified public accountant in the race, which she said should be a qualification for the job.

Bump says she wants to evaluate the state's health care spending and tax incentive programs to see where costs can be cut.

Green-Rainbow candidate Nathanael Fortune is also running in November.

DeNucci is retiring after 24 years as auditor, the state's chief finance watchdog.
