Mass. GOP Hoping To Pass Torch To New Generation

Massachusetts Republicans are betting a slate of fresh faces tapped by GOP voters during Tuesday's primaries will help change the state's political landscape.

Nowhere was that shift clearer than in the race for the 10th Congressional District where state Rep. Jeffrey Perry handily defeated former state Treasurer and party stalwart Joseph Malone for the GOP nod.

Republicans are also betting on new candidates in several statewide races including former Massachusetts Turnpike Authority board member Mary Connaughton for auditor and state Rep. Karyn Polito for treasurer.

Massachusetts Republican Party chairman Jennifer Nassour said having one party in power has led to a culture of corruption and stagnation.

Democratic chairman John Walsh said there's no surge in anti-establishment voting.
