After weeks of speculation, President Obama now appears poised to to appoint Harvard University professor and consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren to oversee the creation of a new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

For now, Warren will not be the president's nominee to head the new agency that arose out of the new finance industry reform law. Instead, she'll oversee the process of setting up the bureau.

WBUR's Bob Oakes spoke with WBUR reporter Curt Nickisch about Warren's new position.

This program aired on September 16, 2010.
