Hands Off My Coke! Readers React To Talk of Boston Sugary Drink Ban
The story in today's Globe only says that Boston city officials are considering an anti-obesity plan to ban sales of sodas and other sugary drinks in official city buildings — not in the city at large.
But judging by readers' reactions, the suggestion is so outrageous that it's enough to spark another tea party — the 18th-century kind, that is. By 10 this morning, the report had already set in motion a wave of more than 80 comments decrying the city's incipient nanny state and pointing accusing fingers at Frappuccinos as well.
