Mass. Gov. Candidates Agree To Human Service Event

The Massachusetts gubernatorial candidates are meeting in famed Faneuil Hall for a debate focused on human services issues.

Democratic incumbent Deval Patrick, Republican Charles Baker, independent Timothy Cahill and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein will face off for 90 minutes Tuesday afternoon.

The Massachusetts Council of Human Service Providers Inc. says the industry has 185,000 employees who serve about 10 percent of state residents. It also consumes about 8 percent of the Massachusetts budget.

The forum will be moderated by WCVB-TV Public Affairs Director Karen Holmes Ward.

The most recent poll shows Patrick leading Baker 41 percent to 34 percent, with Cahill at 14 percent and Stein at 4 percent. Six percent are undecided.

The general election is Nov. 2.
