Mattapan Community Holds Vigil For Murder Victims

Boston police continue to search for the person or people responsible for the fatal shootings in Mattapan early Tuesday morning.

Four people were kille,  including a toddler.  A fifth remains in critical condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

"The community is traumatized and shocked. This was an extraordinary event, which was horrific," said Eugene Rivers, pastor of the Azuza Christian Community Church in Boston.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the shootings were drug-related.

The deaths have rocked the community and last night, about 50 neighborhood residents and community leaders gathered for a vigil in Mattapan, including Gov. Deval Patrick.

"We were more concerned about just hugging people who were crying. And then we had a long prayer. We all joined hands and I think that was a comfort to them," Patrick said.

Those who attended the vigil called for increased police patrols in the neighborhood.
