AP Source: Obama To Visit Mass. As Patrick Faces Tough Election

A campaign adviser for Gov. Deval Patrick says President Barack Obama is planning to visit Massachusetts as Patrick faces a tough re-election campaign.

The adviser told The Associated Press the visit is planned for Oct. 16.

The adviser, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the campaign has yet to make a formal announcement, said the president will appear with Patrick but details of the visit were still being worked out.

Patrick is caught in a tough race for re-election against Republican Charles Baker, independent Timothy Cahill and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein.

Patrick and Obama share Chicago roots and a Harvard University pedigree. Patrick was invited back to the White House for a reception after Obama's inauguration.

Obama appeared at a fundraiser for Patrick in April.

This program aired on October 5, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
