Boston City Councilor's Corruption Trial Starts

The corruption trial of a Boston city councilor accused of accepting a bribe has begun.

Jury selection for the trial of Chuck Turner got under way Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boston. Turner is vowing to clear his name.

He's accused of accepting a $1,000 cash bribe from a businessman who wanted help in getting a liquor license, then lying about it to FBI agents.

Turner, a longtime community activist and city councilor, has strongly denied the allegations and says he plans to take the witness stand at his trial to defend himself.

He is charged with attempted extortion and three counts of making false statements.

Turner says his arrest was politically motivated.
