Witness: NY Cops Overreacted in Student Shooting

A college student who was there when a schoolmate was shot to death in New York by police says the killing was an unnecessary overreaction.

Robert Coulombe, a Pace University senior, said Thursday that officers could have found other ways to stop a car driven by 20-year-old Danroy Henry of Easton, Mass.

Henry, a football player, was killed early Sunday after police were called to a disturbance that spilled out of a Thornwood, N.Y., bar.

Police have said that Henry sped away and hit two officers after a policeman knocked on his car window.
Coulombe said he did not see the shooting, but saw Henry pull away slowly. He said police did not give him a chance to pull over.

Police did not return a call seeking comment.
