Somerville Police Officer Shot, Suspect Killed

Police serving an arrest warrant in Somerville have shot and killed a suspect who had opened fire on officers, leaving one officer in critical condition.

A spokesman for Mayor Joseph Curtatone says the shooting occurred at 6:40 p.m. on Gibbens Street.

The officer is in critical, but stable condition after emergency surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. His name was being withheld.

The office of Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone says officials did not release the identity of the suspect pending family notification.
