High School Football Player Collapses, Dies

A 16-year-old boy has collapsed and died while playing in a junior varsity football game in Warren.

The boy, Michael Ellsessar, was taken by ambulance after collapsing early in the game at Quaboag Regional High School on Monday. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Ellsessar attended Sutton High School, which shares a football team with Oxford High School.

A spokesman for the Worcester District Attorney's office, Tim Connolly, said a referee at the game attempted CPR on the teen before he was taken to the hospital.

Connolly said an autopsy is expected to be performed on Tuesday to determine cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
