3rd Suspect Arrested In Mattapan Murders

A third suspect has been arrested in connection to the Sept. 28 quadruple homicide in Mattapan, Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney announced Wednesday.

Police arrested and charged Edward Washington, 31, of Dorchester, with four counts of murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, home invasion, armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Washington is slated to face arraignment Thursday morning in Dorchester District Court.

The murders rocked the neighborhood and the city, in large part because two of the victims were a mother and her 2-year-old son.

Washington is the cousin of Kimani Washington, 34, of Dorchester, who was arrested Oct. 2 in Manchester, N.H., on gun and drug charges in connection with the killings. Washington pleaded not guilty and is currently held on $500,000 bail.

On Nov. 22, police arrested a second suspect, Dwayne Moore, an ex-con from Mattapan. Moore, like Edward Washington, has been charged with four counts of murder, among other charges. He also pleaded not guilty and is currently held without bail.

Early on Sept. 28, Levaughn Washum-Garrison and Simba Martin were found shot and killed on Mattapan's Woolson Street. Eyanna Flonory and her 2-year-old son, Amanihotep Smith, were also found shot and killed. A fifth victim, Marcus Hurd, was shot and critically injured.

During Moore's arraignment, the district attorney's office described the incident as a robbery-turned-slaying. The prosecution said Moore had lived with Martin and knew there were drugs and cash at Martin's nearby Sutton Street residence.
