Water Main Break, Sinkhole In The South End

A water main break in the South End is creating some icy conditions Thursday morning.

A spokesman for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission said a 12-inch water main broke at the corner of West Springfield and Shawmut Streets early Thursday morning, creating a large sinkhole.

At least two families have left their basement apartments because of flooding. Water has been shut off in the area.
