MIT Plans To Rebuild Nearly One Block Of Central Square

Massachusetts Institute of Technology will soon break ground on a large-scale development project in Cambridge. The school is planning to demolish and rebuild nearly one block of Central Square. Officials say the project is aimed at expanding both research and retail opportunities.

Marc Schulman is manager and owner of the music venue All Asia, one of the businesses that will be displaced.

"There's the personal impact, which is obviously our business — we've been here 10 years — and there's the community impact. As a citizen here, being 20 years with my wife and my two kids, we don't want to see more high-end banks and fine dining establishments," Schulman said.

The real estate company Forest City is leading the $100 million project and will share ownership with MIT.
