Outgoing UMass President To Join Lowell Faculty

Outgoing University of Massachusetts President Jack Wilson says he will join the faculty at the system's Lowell campus when he steps down this summer.

Wilson told The Sun of Lowell on Thursday that he will be a tenured professor of emerging technologies in the College of Management.

He says he chose UMass-Lowell over offers from private universities, private industry and positions in Washington because he admired the school's close ties with the community.

Wilson says he plans to work closely with students to bring their innovative ideas and business plans to the marketplace.

Chancellor Marty Meehan said he is thrilled to have someone with Wilson's academic and business experience on campus.

Wilson was named president in 2003. A new president could be selected as soon as next week.
