Woman Accused Of Smuggling Cocaine Into Logan Airport

A New Jersey woman accused of trying to smuggle about a pound of cocaine she swallowed into the U.S. is scheduled to face a judge in Boston.

Massachusetts State Police say Luisa Gill of Union City, N.J. is expected to be arraigned Monday in East Boston District Court on a charge of trafficking in a Class B substance over 200 grams.

Police say the 21-year-old woman flew into Boston's Logan Airport on Saturday night from the Dominican Republic. Customs officers questioning her found her answers suspicious. Upon further questioning she admitted that she had swallowed 50 pellets of compacted cocaine.

Police say she was taken to a hospital where the cocaine with an estimated street value of $50,000 was recovered.

It was not immediately clear if she had a lawyer.
