The speaker of the Massachusetts House was a casualty of the snow and ice Monday morning.
Speaker Robert DeLeo suffered a broken ankle when he slipped and fell on a patch of ice outside his home in Winthrop.
He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The injury caused the speaker to miss Monday's scheduled leadership meeting at the State House with Gov. Deval Patrick and Senate President Therese Murray.
There was no immediate word on when DeLeo would be able to return to work at the State House.
