Gov. Patrick: Won't Discuss Gaming With Ex-Aide

Gov. Deval Patrick is promising that he and Doug Rubin will not discuss gaming in Massachusetts, now that his former top political strategist has registered as a lobbyist for a firm that contracts with the state lottery.

The Boston Globe reported Thursday that Rubin will be a Beacon Hill lobbyist for Rhode Island-based Gtech Corp.

Rubin also was a campaign consultant to Steven Grossman last year. As treasurer, Grossman oversees the lottery.

During his monthly appearance on WTKK-FM, Patrick said he "thinks the world" of Rubin and considers him a person of high integrity. But the governor also said he's sensitive to the appearance of conflicts and pledged he won't have any conversations with Rubin about casinos.

Rubin told the Globe he won't directly lobby elected officials he's worked with.
