Japan Residents Coping With Lack Of Food, Warmth

Dr. Stuart Harris of Massachusetts General Hospital is in Kesennuma in Miyagi prefecture. It's close to the epicenter of the earthquake in northeast Japan, and was devastated by the tsunami and fires that followed.

Dr. Harris is the head of MGH's Division of Wilderness Medicine, specializing in the care of patients without access to hospitals and traditional medical care.

He joined Morning Edition Thursday by cellphone from Japan to give an update on how the country is coping in the aftermath of all the devastation.
