U.S. Journalist Held In Libya Calls Parents In Conn.

An American journalist detained in Libya with a correspondent for Boston-based GlobalPost has been allowed to make her first call to her parents since being captured more than two weeks ago.

GlobalPost and The Atlantic reported Thursday that Clare Morgana Gillis called her parents in New Haven, Conn., and said she was in good health at a women's civilian jail run by forces loyal to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

Rebel forces have been trying to end Gadhafi's four-decade rule.

Gillis said she'd been in a coed detention center with GlobalPost correspondent James Foley and Spanish photographer Manuel Varela, also known as Manu Brabo. Foley's family is from Rochester, N.H.

Gillis denied speculation they were detained with Anton Lazarus Hammerl, a missing photographer with South African and Austrian citizenship.
