Teens In Mass. School Bullying Case Due In Court

Five teenagers charged with bullying a 15-year-old Massachusetts girl who later killed herself are due in court this week when they are expected to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge.

A lawyer for one of the teens filed documents in court last week indicating a plea agreement had been reached with prosecutors. A person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press that four other teens have also reached plea agreements.

The teens are expected to plead guilty to criminal harassment, while prosecutors are expected to drop more serious charges against them in the bullying of Phoebe Prince, an Irish immigrant who hanged herself in her family's South Hadley apartment last year.

Hearings are scheduled Wednesday and Friday in Hampshire Superior Court and in Franklin-Hampshire Juvenile Court on Thursday.

This program aired on May 2, 2011. The audio for this program is not available.
