Vertex Seeks Cambridge-To-Boston Move

Cambridge drug company Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. has signed a landmark lease for office space on the South Boston waterfront.

Vertex is taking it to the next level. Only last week, its first major drug got a key thumbs-up by a FDA panel. Now the pharmaceutical company has tentatively agreed to move into prominent headquarters at Boston’s Fan Pier.

"We are scattered across 10 buildings in Cambridge," said Vertex spokesman Zach Barber, "so this lets us consolidate all of our employees into just two buildings."

Barber says the buildings will be ready in a couple of years. Rent on the 15-year lease comes in around $73 million per year.
