This article is more than 9 years old.

Why is Boston Scientific CEO Ray Elliott leaving the company after just two years on the job?

Boston Scientific has been struggling financially for the last several years and had tapped Elliott to lead a turnaround. But that's yet to gain a foothold — and on Tuesday Elliott announced he'll retire at the end of the year.

So the company that once led the Massachusetts medical devices industry is launching a search for a new chief executive.

For insight into why Elliott is leaving so soon, WBUR's All Things Considered host Sacha Pfeiffer spoke with Phil Nalbone, a medical technology analyst at Wedbush Securities in San Francisco.

This program aired on May 11, 2011.
