Another sign of improvement in the economy: an uptick in the number of companies going public. New England alone is seeing a rise in initial public offerings of stock this year.

Just last week, Boston-based Carbonite — which provides digital backup services — filed a $100 million IPO plan. Dunkin' Donuts — based in Canton — cooked up a $400 million public offering earlier this month. They're part of a growing trend across the country.

Art Hogan is head of product strategy at Lazard Capital Markets and works out of Boston and New York. Hogan joined Morning Edition Monday to discuss the trend.
