MIT Dorm Evacuated Over 'Suspicious Material'
Contractors working on a Massachusetts Institute of Technology dormitory discovered suspicious materials that Cambridge police have disabled with a high-pressure water cannon.
A police spokesman says the workers discovered the material at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at building W70, known as New House.
The school year has ended but nine students still in the dorm were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The material was disabled by the Cambridge Police bomb squad using a high-pressure water cannon. More suspicious material was subsequently discovered.
There was no immediate word on what the hazardous material was.
Police also temporarily cordoned off Memorial Drive and a nearby street and asked everyone to stay away from the area.
