Mass. City Details Rebuilding Plan After Tornado

Springfield officials will unveil further details of a rebuilding plan in portions of the city damaged by the June 1 tornadoes that struck western and central Massachusetts.

The public-private partnership will be directed by the Springfield Redevelopment Authority and DevelopSpringfield, a nonprofit corporation.

Mayor Domenic Sarno plans to name the individuals who will head up the effort at a City Hall news conference on Tuesday.

Springfield was the largest of the nearly 20 communities impacted by the tornadoes.

Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to close disaster recovery centers in Wilbraham and Westfield on Friday. Centers set up to help tornado victims in Springfield, West Springfield and Brimfield will remain open for now.
