Boston Police Nab Alleged Newbury Street Burglar

Boston police have captured a man they think is responsible for as many as 12 store break-ins in the city's high-end Newbury Street shopping district.

Police say 42-year-old Antonio Roman was spotted by officers at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday jumping from an air-conditioning unit in an alley behind a store.

Roman at first said he was simply going to the bathroom, but police say a backpack near him contained burglary tools, including latex and leather gloves, and a mask.

He was arrested.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment to breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools and ordered held on $15,000 bail.

So far he has only been charged with one incident, but police expect to bring more charges.

His lawyer declined comment.
