U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton declared a mistrial Thursday in baseball star Roger Clemens’ perjury trial after prosecutors showed jurors evidence that he had ruled would out of bounds in the case.

Judge Reggie Walton said Clemens could not be assured a fair trial after prosecutors showed jurors evidence against his orders in the second day of testimony.

NPR Sports Correspondent Tom Goldman joined Talk of Nation to discuss the Roger Clemens trial.

"U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, going into this trial people said he is tough guy, don't mess with him and I think the prosecution found out first hand today," Goldman said.

This program aired on July 14, 2011.
