No Sales Tax In Mass. This Weekend

The Massachusetts sales tax holiday is taking place this weekend.

The 6.25 percent state sales tax will be suspended for two days beginning Saturday.

Many items under $2,500 are exempt from the state sales tax. Boats and motor vehicles are not included in the sales tax holiday. The meals tax remains in effect.

Items must be purchased for personal use and must be either purchased or paid for this weekend.

State tax officials expect to forego about $20 million in taxes as part of an effort just approved by the Legislature and Gov. Deval Patrick to stimulate sales over the weekend and lure consumers to stores.
