Police Make Arrest In Slaying Of Reading Man

This article is more than 11 years old.

Lawrence police have arrested a man suspected of shooting the driver of a car he was in, then speeding away after dumping the body in the street.

Chief John Romero tells The Eagle-Tribune that 20-year-old Eric Rivera was arrested Wednesday night and charged with murder in connection with Monday's shooting death of 33-year-old Christopher Fischer of Reading.

Rivera is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Lawrence District Court.

Police say Fischer was driving through the city when he was shot in the chest by his passenger. Witnesses say the passenger got out of the car, ran to the driver's side, pulled Fischer's body out, jumped behind the wheel, and sped off.

The car was found later near Fischer's home.

Romero has said drugs are a possible motive.
