Vt. Officials, Entergy In Court Over Nuclear Plant's Future

Vermont officials and Entergy, the owner of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, are in court Monday. Sarah Hoffman, with Vermont's Public Service Department, is asking that the plant close when its 40-year license expires in March.

"The issue is whether the state still has the ability to provide some oversight and regulation. We say we do. And Entergy says the state has no part in this decision," Hoffman said.

Federal nuclear regulators have approved a 20-year license extension for Vermont Yankee.

In Massachusetts, Entergy is seeking a license renewal for the Pilgrim nuclear plant.
