After a dismal ending to the Red Sox season this week, there are several reports saying Red Sox team owner John Henry made the decision for Sox manager Terry Francona to leave the team.

Francona met with the club management Friday to discuss his future.

According to Fox Sports early Friday morning, the management might decide not to renew its options for Francona for 2012 and 2013. But according to The Chicago Sun Times, Francona is the one asking for the out because he's fed up with the team.

The decision was reportedly made before the Sox made their September slide, losing the wild card on Wednesday night after holding a nine-game lead at the beginning of the month.

On Thursday, Francona said he had some concerns this past season.

"Teams normally, as the season progresses, there's events that make you care about each other and this club, it didn't always happen as much as I wanted it to," he said.

Baseball author Glenn Stout joined Morning Edition Friday for a closer look at these reports and what it could mean for the team.
