Left To Starve, Dog Escapes Via Apartment Window

A dog left to starve for more than a month in an abandoned Massachusetts apartment escaped by jumping through a three-story-high window.

Animal Control officers say the owners of a 1-year-old dog and 4-month-old puppy left them to starve inside the New Bedford apartment. It was infested with fleas and the floor was covered in feces.

The dog broke its hip and hind leg in the leap, required immediate surgery and is recovering. Officers say the other dog is recovering from near starvation.

An animal shelter is taking custody of the dog and animal control officers are looking for the former owners.
