Police Investigate Possible Mass. Avenue Bridge Jumper

State Police say they have recovered a woman's body from the Charles River.

Before dawn Thursday morning, a witness reported that someone had jumped off the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge.

Police closed down many lanes of the bridge as they searched for the woman.

The Massachusetts Avenue bridge is closed this hour, as Boston police investigate whether someone jumped off the bridge.

The Massachusetts State Police sent an email update at 7:50 a.m.:


Massachusetts State Police units are on-scene at the Mass Ave. Bridge in Boston for a report of a female who jumped off of the bridge and into the Charles River. The report came in at 6:20 a.m. Members of the State Police Underwater Recovery Unit are en route to the location.

Two lanes are open to traffic on the eastbound side of the Mass Ave. Bridge from Cambridge to Boston. One lane is open on the westbound side. The right travel lane on Storrow Drive westbound is currently closed due to emergency equipment.
