Mass. Officials Warn Of Funding Cuts For Home Heating Aid

State officials are warning of what they call a "catastrophic cut" in federal funding for home heating aid this winter.

Some groups have seen funding from the federal low income home energy assistance program, or LIHEAP, cut as much as 60 percent.

And John Drew, with the Boston advocacy group ABCD, says requests for assistance this year are as high as ever.

"Twelve thousand people have been coming to our offices. We haven't even opened our door for winter assistance, they are just terrified," Drew said.

President Obama's 2012 budget would slash $2 billion out of the program nationwide.
