BOSTON – Four local facilities are listed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s internal Clean Air Act “watch list.” The list contains 464 facilities that are serious or chronic violators of the act and have faced no formal enforcement for months.

These four facilities in Massachusetts are included on the list:

  • Bradford Industries, Lowell
  • Pinetree Power, Westminster
  • Solutia Incorporated, Springfield
  • St. Gobain Containers, Milford

Facilities on the list may have violated any number of rules, including failing to adhere to a state or federal order or high emissions of hazardous pollutants.

The Center for Public Integrity’s iWatch News and NPR obtained the previously unreleased list through a Freedom of Information Act request.

NPR and iWatch News published the list as part of an NPR investigation titled "Poisoned Places," which analyzed four data sets relating to sources of air pollution regulated by the EPA.
