Crisis Averted? Blue Cross, Tufts Medical Agree To Keep Talking — With A Little Outside Help

This just in:

Joint Statement from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Tufts Medical Center and New England Quality Care Alliance

Tufts Medical Center, its community physician network and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts are committed to reaching agreement on a new contract. Leadership of the organizations have spoken today and agreed to continue discussions and use a third- party during this process. Both organizations are dedicated to negotiating a contract that ensures our members and patients can continue their relationships with their doctors and their health plan.

On Monday night, contract talks between the state's largest insurer and Tufts Medical Center broke down. The next day, Blue Cross alerted employers that plan members — about 88,000 of them — might no longer be able to get care at Tufts Medical, or see its doctors.
